Patricia Williams views and today's society
When I read "the Alchemy of Race and Rights," it struck me so much because, being a freshman, I never really looked at concepts such as "equal opportunity" in the way Patricia Williams does. I understand from reading the book that she is so called radical, but she has a point. Society seems to assume that equal opportunity exists just because we have been taught that way. In actuality, as Williams points out, it is equal in a sense that certain rules are applied to everybody in the US while people tend to ignore the fact that some had a head start in the earlier America whereas certain groups of people were not even free. I thought reading Williams' book is a great way to open my mind and see things more critically because a kind of racism that WIlliams points still seems to exist in today's society.
