Because Professor Halberstam suggested watching the film Set it off, I decided that it would be a good idea to watch the move on youtube. The film displayed four female african american characters who each had a certain problem. One character, Stoney, was sending her brother off to college when he got shot for being mistaken for a man who robbed the bank. This was a main thing that "set the film off" because it made the women realize how mistreated they are as african americans by society.
The character Cleo was a lesbian woman who was very 'hard' and tough. She was the main character who pushed robbing banks to get back at society. The character Frankie was the woman who worked at the bank who was fired for being african american and thought to be officiated with the robbery by the other african american man. The woman T.T. had a child who was taken away from her because he accidentally drank cleaning product. Overall the film was very powerful and sent a message to the person watching that racism still exists in society today and will continue to exist until society changes it.
